About school
From the in-laws’ house to the largest language school in Zamość and the surrounding region
In 1995, there was no place in Zamość where one could systematically learn foreign languages at a high level. Meanwhile, Gabriela and Marian Manastyrski were living in Lublin, where access to such courses was much better. Their apartment quickly became a stopping point for friends and family from Zamość—they would arrive, stay the night, and… take language classes.
Gabriela, a German studies graduate and a language enthusiast at heart, always said: “Languages are a passport to the world.” When she and Marian realized how limited the language-learning opportunities were in Zamość at the time, they couldn’t stop thinking about it. They shared not only teaching experience but also a passion for educating and inspiring young people. Marian had taught IT for many years at a high school in Lublin, where he was very popular among students.
Since both of them had an entrepreneurial spirit, the decision was quick and bold: let’s move back to Zamość (Marian’s hometown) and create something that does not yet exist.
That’s how Bacalarus was born, and for many years, it has been opening doors to the world for Zamość residents by teaching them languages.
The first two years: a small yet significant start”– from five groups to a full language school
In 1996, Bacalarus was founded. It started its operations in a small office room at Marian’s parents house. It was a modest beginning, but fueled by a strong idea and courage. In the first year, they taught five groups—mainly adults. (Today, we teach about 130 groups at our school every year.)
But from the very beginning, the founders focused primarily on quality. Gabriela and Marian insisted on authentic teaching—with native speakers from Ireland and the USA, which, at the time, was a significant change in Zamość.
After two years, Bacalarus had already become more than just a language course. Moving to Partyzantów Street marked another milestone. It was also when Barbara Tittenbrun joined the team—a methodological advisor whose knowledge and experience set a new direction for the school’s development.

Today and tomorrow: 1,400 students and no plans to slow down
Today, Bacalarus is much more than a language school. It’s a space that inspires over 1,400 students every year to learn languages—proving that it’s truly worth it.
It’s built by a team of 40 dedicated teachers, including native speakers from the UK and Canada—: educators who not only share knowledge but also motivate and build their students’ confidence.
Our hallmark is results: 97% of our students successfully pass the Cambridge exams—one of the world’s most prestigious language certificates, recognized by universities and employers from London to Sydney. These certificates really open doors —to better studies, careers, and new opportunities.
Our students also achieve excellent results on Poland’s 8th-grade and high-school leaving exams, proving that Bacalarus teachers effectively prepare them for both international and national language challenges.
At Bacalarus, we believe learning a language truly makes sense and has the power to change lives.
None of this would be possible without the commitment of the Bacalarus team and the trust of our students, for which we are grateful. Thank you so much. We promise to continue developing and improving the quality of our education. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We’re proud to create a place that genuinely impacts their growth.
